This presentation will present the earliest history of New London which was centered along Old Main Street with its original Meetinghouse, mills, and schoolhouses. As time passed the center of town moved to Colby Hill with the Baptist Church building their new church building in 1826 and the town hall being built next to the Academy buildings. The old meetinghouse was taken down and became a men’s dormitory at the Academy. The Old Main Street Cemetery remains with its many Revolutionary War veterans and first settlers buried there – a reminder of the earliest days in New London.
